If you lose your ID card, it’s damaged and suddenly not working, or otherwise need a replacement ID card, come by during our open hours and we can make you a new one.
To pick up your replacement ID card, you (or your designate) MUST bring a government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, passport card, state identity card, military ID, etc., so long as it is issued by a governmental entity and has your picture on it). We will not provide you a replacement ID card without you (or your designate) providing IDCS with a government-issued photo ID.
Students
- Your replacement ID card will have the current photo, name, and College affiliation.
- The replacement fee is $25. Students are charged to their Student Billing Services account, based on their student ID number.
- IDCS will charge students for all replacement ID cards (damaged ID card charges are at IDCS’s discretion) as follows:
- Free replacements
- Persons wishing to change their identity and/or lived name. Please see the University of California’s Gender Recognition and Lived Name Policy for more information.
- Stolen ID cards (free if you show us the police report of its theft)
- Charged replacements
- Changes to your photo, name, or College affiliation. If you wish to change any of these, please upload your new photo, and email us about the photo and/or information change(s) BEFORE coming to IDCS. You MUST let us know at the desk about your desired changes, or your replacement ID card will contain the unchanged information from our databases, and you will be charged for that ID card.
- ID Cards damaged by heat, misuse, improper storage, etc.
- Lost ID cards
- Free replacements
- Quarterly stickers will be provided to you depending on why you need the replacement ID card.
- If your ID card is damaged, or if you are changing your identity/lived name, you must bring to IDCS the ID card you want replaced (with a current quarter validation sticker on it). IDCS can then apply the current quarter sticker to your replacement ID card.
- If you don’t or can’t bring in the damaged ID card, you will have to go to one of the locations listed on our Quarterly Stickers page to pick up a quarterly sticker.
- IDCS will recode your replacement ID card for Dining Services’ access when we make it for you, and it will automatically update for some other services. However, you may have campus access needs that require entry in a specific database of your new card data:
- If you live on campus you need to go to your Campus Housing Office to have the new ID card coded for access to your dorm building and room (and anything else Campus Housing controls to which you use your ID for entry).
- If you have access to space through an academic division (i.e., for lab access, classroom access) you’ll need to find out from the facilities manager of the building that holds the space how to get your new ID card coded.
REFUNDS: We don’t offer them, unless IDCS has made a mistake on your card. If we print your card and you find your old card later, just cut it in half and throw it away, it can’t be used. Please don’t bring it to us and ask for a refund of your replacement card charges!
Staff/Faculty/Others
- Your replacement ID card will have the same badge layout, current photo (if applicable), name, and unit affiliation (if applicable).
- The replacement fee is $25. All non-student replacement cards must be paid for by a campus FOAPAL, approved by an authorized signer of that FOAPAL, and given to IDCS BEFORE you come to the IDCS office. Your approver can email us with the FOAPAL and the authorization to pay for your replacement ID card; we no longer need to have an “official” recharge form, just an email authorizing payment. Departments that currently share with IDCS a Google form can add the user to the form and mark it “replacement”; that will satisfy the approval process.
- IDCS will charge non-student ID card users for all replacement cards (damaged card charges are at IDCS’s discretion) as follows:
- Free replacements
- Persons wishing to change their identity and/or lived name. Please see the University of California’s Gender Recognition and Lived Name Policy for more information.
- Stolen ID cards (free if you show us the police report of its theft)

You MUST let us know at the desk about your desired changes, or your replacement ID card will contain the unchanged information from our databases, and your unit will be charged for that ID card.

- If you have access to space through an academic division or through your work (i.e., for office, lab, or classroom) you’ll need to find out from the facilities manager of the building that holds the space if you need to get your new ID card coded into their access systems.
